Mozzarella Sticks Recipe- Learn like a Pro: Cheese sticks that you make yourself taste so much better than those you buy in a store. You can fry, bake, or air-fry the treats from my recipe right away, or you can freeze them for later.

  • I’m no longer going to the store to get a frozen bag…We’re making our own cheese sticks today!
  • There’s a reason I always say to make recipes from scratch: fried foods, like my donut holes or funnel cake, are better that way.
  • Fries that are still warm and golden are my favorite kind of food.
  • It’s even better when they’re filled with cheese and dipped in marinara sauce (though my son dips his in ranch dressing, is that weird?)!

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups (106 g) plain Panko
  • ½ teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • ½ teaspoon dried parsley
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon table salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup (63 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 lb whole milk mozzarella block or 15 whole milk string cheese
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Marinara sauce for dipping (click the link to make my homemade marinara)

Instructions

  1. The panko crumbs should be placed in a Ziploc bag, and then they should be crushed with a rolling pin or a hammer until they are fine crumbs.
  2. Crushed panko should be placed in a shallow dish, and then Italian seasoning, parsley, garlic powder, pepper, and salt should be added. Stir the mixture until it is together.
  3. Scramble two big eggs by breaking them into a separate dish that is shallow and beating them with a whisk or the tines of a fork until they are scrambled.
  4. Put the all-purpose flour into still another basin that is deep and wide.
  5. If you are using a block of mozzarella, cut it along its width into fifteen sticks.
  6. Take each stick in turn and dunk it in the flour, then brush off any excess flour. Do this with each stick individually. After that, let any extra egg to drop out before dipping in the beaten egg. Lastly, coat the cheese stick with the panko crumb mixture, making sure that the panko is evenly distributed throughout the stick.
  7. The mozzarella sticks that have been breaded should be placed on a wire cooking rack that has been placed on a baking sheet. After finishing the process of dipping all of the sticks, place them in the freezer and let them cold for at least an hour. In the event that you are going to chill the food for more than one hour, take it from the freezer after one hour, store it in a container that is airtight, and then put it back in the freezer.
